Holiday Heaven

In persuit of Belgium beer, chocolate and seafood...

all seasons in one day

Seafood, beer, chocolate and cycling kind of summed up our stay in Belgium.

Once we got off the boat in Calais, we headed straight for the Belgium border and spent our first night in the seaside resort of Neiwport. We hoped that our first night would be a taste of things to come, as we went out for an amazing seafood dinner accompanied by some Leffe!

We spent our first few days of our trip in Northern Belgium, wandering around the WW1 Battlefields and never ending cemeteries of Ypres.

After that sombering experience we spent some time exploring Bruges, and off course found some time to stop off at the odd chocolate shop or two enroute!

Our favourite part of Belgium though was in the Ardenne. We stayed in a beautiful old town set on the river called Dinant, which was, by pure coincidence, about 5km down the road from the Leffe Beer Abbey! We found a wonderful campsite and spent a couple of days cycling around the hills and local villages, testing out the local cafes and boulangeries en route.

After arriving in Belgium with few expectations, we were now very sad to be leaving; we’ll definitely be back though….
